60 seconds reply wait

9 posts in this topic

Why is there a 60 second reply wait in private messages, I type too quickly so can reply to about four messages in that time and have to keep clicking submit, just to get told wait another 29 secs, then wait another 4 secs, AAAAArrrrrrggggghhh. I am sending to different people so not sure where the problem is.

I think it's to deter disgruntled members firing off a load of crap to the one that made them disgruntled.

Only what I have been told you understand. :-)

I get that but when you are sending them to different people then I don't undertstand. I just add twats to my blocked list. It works wonders, not that are many on here anymore.

Maybe the software isn't able to establish that PM's are being sent to different members, and so it's set as it is. Whats 60 seconds anyway? ;)

Yes, to prevent illegal programs running in the background that can send thousands of messages, usually containing a hyperlink, in just a split second. This is probably why every new member's post is reviewed by the moderators before its published to find out if its a real person or just an automated program.

From some of the posts I read, I think the security cordon has been breached. :)

Absolutely - you wouldn't believe how many people will sign up to any *general* forum and use it just to post as many ads to members as possible - not least Nigerian 419 scams.

Unfortunately, it means restrictions on everyone else, but these days, have become pretty much the norm and for the most part are more than tolerated by members on most forums.
