Urgent request to all involved in the escort business

23 posts in this topic

The IUSW have organised a private meeting with MPs in the House of Commons for the 10th of February between 12.00 and 14.00. It is vital that we have a good show of people involved from the industry. The meeting is only for an hour and there are two 20 min presentations. There will then be questions and answers, which hopefully some of you can reply to. It is all in private and will not be advertised and there will be no press. The meeting is for all involved in this industry, so we are looking for escorts, agency owners, brothel owners, madams, maids, and clients.

This is our chance to show MPs that we are collectively working together and that we are not all dodgy back street businesses ashamed of what we do. If we can get 50 or 70 industry people there it would make a huge impression. If no one turns up then of course the MPs will assume that as an industry we don't give a F@~%k and just once more assume that the IUSW people are not representative. (You do not have to be a member of the IUSW to attend)

People from all over the UK will be attending so it will be a chance to meet others in the industry from other parts of the UK. We do need escorts there as well as agencies, brothel owners, maids and clients. It will be a chance to see inside the H of C (which is spectacular).

The IUSW have £1000, which is a donation from the Tory party. We can use this to cover some train fares but if you can cover your own obviously we would be very grateful.

The Scrutiny committee are also accepting written reports from anyone concerned up to the 10th of Feb. We do not need anything fancy. It is not a case of writing a literary script but a chance to put honestly on paper how you feel the law affects the running of your business and of course how the changes would affect your business. One page is all we need but it is important that we have again as many representations from the industry as soon as possible. I can help if you want or if you need to ask any questions. I will be providing more information as to what points should be covered, and where to send them.

Can you please get this message out to the industry so that as many people as possible can respond, attend or both?

For more information, please contact Catherine on 07868 492276, http://iusw.org

Please pass this on to any other escort related boards you may post on.

Regards Elrond

I have been told there are 2 20 minute presentations, with the expectation of the meeting being one hour. The time of 12 -2 I assume is a little leeway for late starting and overrunning.

One thing that has occured to me about this - if it's not being advertised why has it been posted across the industry forums, all of which can be accessed by journalists, punters as well as a few lurkers......

Alas we don't know who will attend. The day and time has been selected as the most convenient for MPs to attend.

Obviously we want as many escorts, especially those working for agencies and who share flats to attend. The legislation is most likely to effect them.

Punters are also welcome.

Access to the meeting will be controlled by the building security, so if you want to go, then you MUST contact Catherine.

hi everyone

First of all, we may have to change the date of the meeting from 10 to 11 February, as a result of commitments from the MP who's doing the room hire. I'll be able to confirm the date on Monday.

We're still not sure exactly what format the meeting on the 10th or 11th will take - it could be a "meet the experts" (ie, mostly academics etc) or it could be a "meet the people who are going to have to live with whatever mess you guys make" (ie, mostly us). If anyone who's coming along is interested in speaking at the meeting, please contact me asap.

We're also considering a mass lobby of parliament - possibly on the 10th/11th or possibly with more notice. It'd be good to have a sense of how many people might be up for that, so if you might be, please let me know. (I'll be checking out issues about privacy/confidentiality).

Second, at present, the IUSW is working on the basis that section 20 (brothel closure orders) is the most dangerous thing - it's so broadly drafted as to effectively withdraw the protection of the law from everyone in the indoor industry (unless you work only outcall): we're not going to call the cops to report a robbery if we know half an hour after they arrive the place can be boarded up because they suspect it's a brothel. Let me know if you think it's more important to focus most on anything else. (We'll be trying to change things on everything apart from the removal of "common prostitute" as all the proposed changes are bad and dangerous, but the brothel closures seem the worst.)

We're in the process of producing a short guide for MPs on what's wrong with the proposed law (the 17 page "everything we can think of" version is already done, but most of them won't read that much, so we're condensing that to a 2-4 page summary). If anyone wants copies of the long briefing, email me at catherine@iusw.org, or it'll be available to download from the website soon.

Apologies to anyone who's still waiting for me to call them back - I'll try to catch up on calls tomorrow, and if not, Monday.

Many thanks.

Catherine

Sorry, some people have apparently been worried that details of the meeting have been posted on line - you'll only be able to get in if you're expected, as security at Portcullis House (where the meeting will take place) is higher than at the House of Commons (Portcullis House is across the road from the HoC, over Westminster tube station). Will send more info nearer the time. Hope that helps.

You can also sign up for updates from the IUSW at

Cheers,

Cxx

The above paragraph is wrong Catherine.

The way I understand it, all those thousands of girls working as Independents (incall or outcall) will not be affected. They will still not be breaking the law.

Debbie, More gwomen work in brothels and for incall agencies than independents.

Many independents also share premises with other independents, or have other girls around for threesomes, this constituting a brothel.

I have long time felt the brothel closure law was more dangerous then the criminalise the punter law. And that law against the punter has now already got proposals by the select comiittee to make it more reasonable.

Section 20 (brothel closure orders) allows closure of premises on suspicion that in the past or in the future any of the following offences have been or will be committed: paying for the sexual services of a child; controlling or inciting a child to be involved in prostitution or pornography; arranging or facilitating child prostitution or pornography; causing or inciting prostitution more generally; or controlling a prostitute for gain. Powers reside with the police but (136Q) the Secretary of State may extend powers to a third party.

If you call the cops and the police suspect you of any of the above, they will be able to seal the premises immediately. If your neighbours call the cops and say they suspect any of the above, the police will be able to seal the premises immediately. Yes, prosecutions of independents will probably fail, at least in many cases. But section 20 give police (or anyone else mandated by the Home Secretary) powers to seal premises on suspicion, way before a prosecution takes place.

that sounds like "it's okay that you ban paying for sex as long as you legalize brothels(!) What difference does it make, once customers realize they risk being arrested if they visit a brothel, they won't do it

By their own admission the Government felt very few men would be caught and that thousands of brothels would be closed.
