Is DD the new 38"?

28 posts in this topic

When I was a lad in the 70s and the only sex available was via men's magazines, every model was described as having a 38" chest. It was a code for big breasts. Now, we were young and foolish and had no idea that chest size has nothing to do with breast size. It's all about bra cup size. Yesterday, I was going through a working girl register and seeing what was on offer. Every single woman's description said she was "DD". Most looked C and maybe a few, possibly, were D cups. So, has DD now become a code for big breasts rather than a real measurement? And would we punters be happier with adjectives, like large or generous? (Tactfully avoiding humungous or ginormous)

I believe this is because in days gone-by bras were only available in limited sizes - so if you were very large you simply had to go up a band size (ie 38 instead of 36 or 34). Hence 38" on a slimish lady would mean she had a large cup size.

A similar question was posed (pun intended, although sadly it was illustrated by an empty bra) on the front cover of Observer magazine last Sunday:

Why are British women's breasts getting bigger?

(Although it contradicts the OP's statement about sizes... maybe because it's written from the perspective of the consumer of bras rather than the consumer of what's in them, so to speak.)

I have to agree here. Lots of girls described at DDs are clearly no more than a C Cup. Given my monicker, on the very rare occasion when I've tried a WG without seeing a picture and this transpires I am disappointed to say the least. The thing is, much as I love the biggest of enhanced breasts ( though not the US porn-star look which usually means rock-hard tits ) on a small girl ( like the Orientals ) a C cup looks quite busty, anyway.

Let's start a campaign for honest boob-sizing.

Mmmm, another band wagon for the "all wg,s lie about everything" brigade to jump on, nice one!!!

To be honest when you go to buy a bra its the same as clothes, you are different sizes in different shops. I got measured up at house of fraser and was declared either a 32D or a 34C depending on which label bra i bought,i bought a triumph and it fitted a treat, i went to la senza and they measured me as a 38B, i went into anne summers and was measured as a 36D, who knows what size i am but i put myself out as 36D as this is the size i find fits me most often. You cant blame ladies for saying they are the bigger of the sizes they are measured up at, its confusing enough for us anyway so please dont make a huge deal about it. After all, most of you do get a little confused regarding the size of your manbits dont you. I have had guys email me saying they had a huge cock when in reality it turned out to be unspectaclarly average, and other guys phoneing saying that the pant tackle is average and when its whipped out even i shudder at the size of the thing.

Have you ever seen one that is spectacularly average?

I've been told I am more of a B cup right now by clients, friends as well as assistants in a lingerie shop. So that means I have been lying for 12 months - when my breasts are a whole cup bigger. Just think of the business I've missed out on!!!!Clients have actually said I shouldn't call them 'small' any more.

Shocker.

All my A cup bras fit fine though which is what I've been stating. Basically I have some, they aren't huge and they aren't tiny being somewhere between an A and a B cup. Oh and the right one is 2 mm higher than the left. Is that enough?

Bra sizing is a pain in the ass. I've no doubt that some ladies do lie about their cup size, but at the same time it is very hard to judge from looking or even measuring! I had a friend in school who was measured in two different shops, one told her she was a 36 G and another told her she was a 40 B - quite a difference! It also makes a huge difference what your overall body type is. A DD on a skinny girl is going to look much bigger than it would on a larger lady, because of the contrast.

Hmmm... but I really am 38DD, least apart from when I'm 36E, which is rarer.

The cup size only refers to the difference between the underbust and overbust measurements. If for example, a woman's ribcage is larger on her overbust area then she will have a larger cup size regardless of apparent breast size. I believe I am one such woman. I am absolutely miserable wearing any bra size other than 36DD and yet I would not consider myself to have particularly large breasts. This is why I do not usually give a bra size unless a directory requires it. My attitude is that clients either like what they see in my pictures or they do not. Why should these silly measurements matter anyway?

You'll be amazed just how many men do get hung up on a girls bra size particularly of they are into the bigger boobs, why is beyond me especially as us girlies have a hard time finding out exactly what size we are in the first place ourselves.

I had four bra fittings last year and all four measurements were different, one shop refused to do the cup measurment because as they said bras differ in their size between the different manufacturers as well, so how on earth are they supposed to get it right?

A DD cup is quite large on a small framed lady. I go on a busy forum where a J cup is more the norm, now some of those puppies really are massive.

It's the same with dress size though, it really annoys me how judgemental people are about size 14 or 16, immediately assuming you must be BBW. The fact is someone who is 5' and size 16 is going to be a damn site bigger than someone 5'10 and size 16. Totally different shapes but tarred with the same brush.

When I was very young I was in a coma for several weeks and emerged a size 10. All the pictures of me at that time look horrific as it just isn't the right size for me and my height and yet some people would totally ignore my profile because I'm not a size 10. Still if people want to judge us by bra sizes and dress sizes that's their choice, but they are being blinkered and missing out on a lot of sexy fun.

Damn right! I got a new bra the other day and it was an E cup! Now, I am sorry, but I don't think so somehow, although it fits perfectly... I have some bras which are a C and some a DD and guess what? They ALL fit perfectly!!

Anyway, who cares??? I have a handful, and that suits me! When guys called me and asked me, they would go "You are a D cup, right?" I would say "Yeah, that'll do!"

I'm just saying that the anorak gene of men need a number and we get hooked up on that number. I was maybe suggesting adjectives rather than sizing.

This sounds like a good idea, at least in theory. But while I would consider my twin mounds of feminine excellence to be decidedly medium sized, I have received many complimentary remarks from clients about my "great big tits" or "small and perfectly formed bosoms." I have no problem either way, but size is subjective.

It's not usually WG's who give out this false info -but parlour 'spokeswomen' or whatever you call the folks who answer the phone and give the descriptions. I agree that a DD on a larger woman would not look the same as on on small frame ( hence my comment about Orientals ). I suppose I'm easily led, but, for example, I visited a Crewe establishment on the promise of a size 10 E cup and got a size 10 for sure but no more than C.

It's all bloody confusing, and I never think they're that big until I try and buy clothes or see them in photos!

I put on a 36F yesterday and had spillage, then put on a 36E that was fine, my 38E the day before had a little bit of spillage too... all from the same shop, it depends on the day of week which bras I actually fit into.

Some girls blatently exaggerate their bra size, but I also notice some who are definetely bigger than their stated size - an old flatmate of mine used to advertise herself as a DD, wore B/C bras (she was a B before her implants) but was infact about an F.

I've seen photos of girls on agency or parlour websites that are listed as a 'B' cup and are quite obviously an 'A'. It's very rare you see anyone list themselves as an A and come on were are out there!!!!!

After I had my boobs done the first shop I went to gave me a 32D to try on and I thought it was fine so stayed with that size for years. Last year though, I watched a TV programme where they were measuring ladies for bras who were obviously not as large as me and they were being told they were an E or an F. So I went and got measured again. When the lady saw me in my 32D bra she just shook her head. She gave me a 30E to try on. Too small. A 30F fitted perfectly. I can now see that, although the 32D did the job adequately, the 30F gave me a much better shape.

Well It used to be a nightmare for me to get a bra. The first time I got one that fitted properly was imported from the States and cost £36 and was a 36HH, which was a huge amount of money in the 1980s. Research at that time would have shown no-one to be a K cup, as there were no K cup bras available. I now wear a 38k and I assume there must be a few of us about or else the manufacturers wouldn't bother making them. I get bras from Bravissimo and find the fitters there are amazing. They don't actually measure you, just look at your chest and tell you what will fit!
