Lotions, condoms

5 posts in this topic

Had an appointment the other day and had to stop the girl using lotion on me - was pretty surprised that she didn't know that it weakens condoms. I thought this was common knowledge, that creams containing oils (pretty much all of them, including "aqueous" ones) damage condoms - it doesn't have to be pure baby oil or vaseline, and I don't think the condom has to physically tear to be compromised. Are there a lot of WGs who use oil-based lubricants (e.g. in a massage) then handle a condom?

Yes, I do. You're missing out an important point - it's carbon based oils which damage condoms. I use silicone based oil which is as much of an oil as anything else with all the benefits (including being tasteless), but does no damage to condoms whatsoever - it's slightly more expensive but a little goes a hell of a long way.

That said, as massage bores me shitless I don't do it often anyway, but it might be worth checking the ingredients of the product that you're actually talking about rather than denouncing it as a rubber-rotter without even bothering to look.

Said before I did and exactly what I was thinking. A lot of 'lotions' probably do not damage condoms at all.

That's good to know. I didn't know that non-specialist lotions can be silicone-based - the ones I have seen have liquid paraffin in, so I was voicing a concern based on what I have read on condom packets and general advice sites. It looked like regular moisturising body lotion to me.
