What 'girlfriend experience? . . .'

17 posts in this topic

Just came across this excellent review by top critic Roger Ebert of (and you don't need to have seen it) a film called 'The Girlfriend Experience' (which is about just what you'd guess it is about).

The interesting thing, is that he suggests what we call 'The Girlfriend Experience' is in actual fact a 'Boyfriend Experience': that's what she gives him - the feeling of being a boyfriend.

"These men don't want a girlfriend experience. They want a boyfriend experience. They want to feel as if they're on a date. They will be listened to. Their amazing comments will be smiled at. Their hair will be tousled. They will be kidded. They have told Chelsea about their wives and children, and she remembers their names. They can kiss her. There is no illusion that they are leaving their wives, and none that she wants them to. She simply empowers them to feel younger, more looked up to, more clever, than they are."

Is he right? Is it called a 'girlfriend experience' precisely for the reasons stated (eg he wouldn't like it if you called it anything else!) :D

Hi.

Its only a reference, and a name for an act between punter and escort, call it David Cameron if you wish, but as long as the two folk taking part are comfertable and enjoy their time together!, its fine as it is.

Though I thought it was because the guy choses the lady whom he wishes to be his girlfriend for the allocated time.

Sounds a good code word. Man on phone to his regular, wife listening in the same room, "Yes let's meet and discuss those David Cameron issues."

So it's a boyfriend experience. If it was a girlfriend experience you'd have to give a monkeys. :D

this film was done by steven soderberg (oceans11, solaris, erin brockovich etc.)

i think he is a good director for funny stories but not for great feelings,

so i dont expect too much from this story. we all here know how a GFE

feels like. i am more curious after seeing the movie what the girls in here

think about it.

i still dont understand the "oh i cant do it coz its to personal" thing.

hopefully this film will help to understand that part better but i think it will not.

I think it all depends on whether you feel the need to analyse it or not. If you do, turning an issue on its head is often illuminating.

I dont punt with those WGs who say "oh i cant do it coz its to personal" nowadays assuming you mean services that fall with the scope of a GFE. That is the past, punting has moved happily IMO from the days when WGs said they couldnt kiss because that was "for their boyfriends or husbands only"

Soderberg tends to make us observe feelings rather than get caught up in them. And he's fascinated by strong characters. Sasha G plays an unusual and incredibly strong character. In some ways she almost reminds me of people like Sir Alan Sugar in the way she is so totally focussed. She also stands back from the emotion she elicits professionally. The film is more conceptual, showing us her psychology, rather than 'story' I think. I can think of at least one WG for whom it would be a potential role model if she decided to make the leap from excellent to major player (like Sasha's character), though I think she will prefer to go for her other profession for which she is still training.

I think Ebert's comment maybe underlines how it is the bloke that is experiencing, that it is all about him.

And also how they create their own 'experience' - the professional (WG) merely facilitates. Is the extent of this reflected as WGs decide to become more expert?

Hi.

Sadly I have met a few who seem to think that they are bringing it back, true they were both in parlours, and were not the busiest of ladies, but they did seem to think they were okay in not offering a total gfe service.

The choice out there is vast, and im sure punters will vote with their feet on this one.

It is of course up to the WG what she offers, i simply do as you say and vote with my feet or more often move on after the rare lady says she doesnt actually offer DFK on the phone despite her site/profile saying she did, the usual explanation is she "forgot" to update her services list. At least being told this on the phone saves me the time of getting to hers to discover she doesnt and she is relying on me thinking with my dick and staying. No DFK no punt is my modus nowadays.:D

I thought the Punter ' Erotic Connoisseur' was particular loathsome in that film but fantastic method acting.

I was curious to see "The Girlfriend Experience".mostly because of the marketing related to the name of the porn star in the lead role. Unfortunately this movie with a boring and lame screenplay and terrible acting.

For me, that description accurately sums up the main characteristics of a girlfriend experience. Sex is sex, and when analysed ad absurdum is the same whoever might you do it with. The perceived difference between highly enjoyable sex and the less enjoyable variety is a difference of psychology. The writer of that passage has described the psychology with uncanny accuracy.

He he I've seen this movie. Funny thing is what I discovered afterwards is that that girl is infact a hardcore pornstar. I mean deepthroat, anal, double penetration you name it. She was also very pretty. After that movie I think she continued with her career as a pornstar.

Yes absolutely. Though of course there's barely any nudity in the movie much less graphic hardcore. I think the reason the director liked her was that she's so comfortable around the subject of sex. More than a regular actress.
