Default Harriet calls for Punternet to be banned

You really couldn't make it up. Now she is calling for Arnold Schwarzenegger to "terminate" the site.

Link here.

But why single out Punternet, when there are plenty of similar sites? I'm guessing it's because the only one she knows about, igonorant buffoon that she is.

She needs to stop this stupidity.

Another reason why Labour should not continue running this country. I was always so pro labour - but she is the one person that grates me beyond belief. She's second in charge too - that's frightening!

Punternet is not the problem - there are arseholes exploiting women in all walks of life. There are also women exploiting men - but of course no one ever talks about the poor sods who get ripped off.

if anything Punternet has been a useful resource to help keep the industry safer and in check.

They don't mention the network of support that can be obtained here.

It's the ladies not on punternet and similar site in some form that may have more problems.

You don't need to be in the adult industry to be treated like crap by someone.

Ask the thousands of teens and 20 somethings who go out to clubs at the weekend and subject themselves to all sorts of situations which are deemed dangerous.

I don't come here much but I still value its resource as an independent woman.

Stells x

She completely miss represents what punternet is, it's times like this I hope we do have journalists lurking here prepared to call her on her lies.

(If one is reading this then talk to some of the girls here and you will see they are mostly independents working from choice; Try looking at the policy against pimps touting; try looking at the policy against under-aged girls; try looking at some of the threads of support and advice offered to working girls; above all don't forget that punting and prostitution are legal in this country; and the House of Lords bounced back her asinine claims.

I wonder if the GMB's IUSW will get the opportunity to rebut her ill founded dogma at the confrence.

I sure we can expect an influx of visitors, both genuine and disruptive so lets be doubly cautious not get drawn in by internet trolls.

Harman then goes on to complain, "...In a stinging attack on the financial sector where, Miss Harman said, women are paid on average 44 per cent less than male employees, the minister set out proposals for compulsory pay audits, which will force firms to reveal salary scales for staff of both sexes."

Well I am working in a sector where women earn a lot more than men, and Punternet is part of ensuring that benefit

"Ms Harman, the Equalities Minister, told Labour Conference she had written to the former film star to demand he close down a company called “PunterNet,” which allows men who buy sex the opportunity to comment on their experience.

Describing the California-based website, which carries dozens of reviews of escorts working in London and other cities in the United Kingdom, as “degrading,” she revealed that she had also complained to Louis Susman, the US Ambassador. She told delegates: “There is now a website … where pimps put women on sale for sex and then men who’ve bought sex with them put their comments online.

“It is ‘PunterNet’ and fuels the demand for prostitutes. This is the ultimate commodification of women. It is truly degrading and puts women at risk. "

I think Punternet is one of the best ways of protecting yourself as a WG, and it certainly keeps many of us away from harm by helping those who want to organise their lives as independents rather than having to work through agencies or parlours or whatever.

Her comments are so cheap and show no respect for working women, especially sex working women.

Hypocritical vicious and stupid cow!!!

Quote:
During the debate on citizenship and equalities, Miss Harman also attacked The Sun newspaper, which has just switched its support from Labour to the Conservatives, for featuring topless models on its Page 3 feature – and called on delegates to “bite back” and win the next election.
She said: “I am speaking to you this morning about something The Sun knows absolutely nothing about: equality.
"The nearest their political analysis gets to women's rights is Page 3's News in Briefs.
"We are all angry about The Sun this morning but I say to you: don't get bitter, get better.
It is interesting that the same rag, with the same tits out on Page 3 has been going as long as MsHarman has been a labour politician accepting its support.

Rank hypocricy.

Well you old bag, come and get us, we will see you sunk at the next election.

Absolutely. All publicity is good publicity. I bet the hits to the site have gone through the roof as so many people who never knew it existed find it

Silly cow IMO

She slags off the Sun and seems to have just noticed the titties on Page 3.

They suddenly appeared there today after The Sun has said they will support the Conservatives. Clearly they could not have been there all the years she has been a Labour MP and supported by the Sun now could they??

Hypocritical old bat!

"I've raised it with the US ambassador to London and I've called on California's governor, Arnie Schwarzenegger, to close it down."

Harman said it should not be difficult for the star to "terminate PunterNet".

"And I've got news for him: if he doesn't, I'll be back," she quipped.

Jeez he must be quaking in his boots, if he's actually heard of her.

Harriet Harman like any person is free to hold her own opinions in a democratic society. Her views on morals and prostitution , are well known.
She has managed to get herself into a political position where she can hold great influence over the Labour party and what forms its core policies. indeed she is one death away from being our Prime minister.
I hold strongly different views to her on freedom to choose, democracy in general and prostitution in particular. IMO the day prostitution is illegal and forced underground, the consequences for girls, punters and society in general will be to make it very much worse. She has no understanding of the misery that banning prostitution will cause.
The only way to deal with this matter is to vote against "labour" at the next election and all elections where she remains in a position to influence government policy. I hope that the other parties will listen to advice given to them by police forces, to recognise democracy is for allowing greater freedom not less, provided noone is getting hurt.
Then there is the rub, the area that the goverment must deal with is trafficking drugs etc. They continue to focus on us all instead of the truly evil part of prostitution.
It would simply be beyond her intelligence to grasp the fact, that a woman of 20 now, might choose prostitution, enjoy the financial benefits and socialising/sex with men even men much older than themselves. That this same woman might later in life be a doctor, teacher or yes even a politician and she has not harmed society but given a lot of pleasure and comfort, by her actions along the way.
The labour party should stop wasting time and resources pursuing us and instead concentrate on the true criminals and focus on improving society. Is that so much to ask?

ok, let us just for one moment assume this is more then just cheap propaganda (which I think it is, but it did get our attn, and our links).

Could the UK gov, or any other gov for that matter, undertake steps under current legislation to shut down punternet or any other site ?

Is PN really based in California ?
does California, or whereever, have any laws that can be leaveraged ?
Would the site, or a copy, or even a competitor not just move somewhere else and continue ?

OK, granted, China and several more (religious-) dictatorial states seem to block sites like this.
But the UK and other more liberal countries (even the US) have some form of internet-neutrality and freedom of speech granted in their laws, even in the constitution.

Apart form all this, I do think we grant HH too much publicity. I suggest we discuss some other HH topic. This one tires me.

Someone as made the following comment on the Telegraph website:

'The state governments in the U.S. do not shut down websites, that is regulated at the Federal level and this would be a decision for the Federal government, not the state of California government'

It looks like once again she has done stunning research into something.

Ok, so it is Federal Jurisdiction. Kinda figures, otherwise Alabama would never have had internet in the first place.

But what is the relevant legislation, and could it be applied to PN ?
(we all know they can physically snoop/block our traffic, at least the ruskies and the chinese can, but does anyone stand a sporting chance to legally shut this site down ?)

I think its absolutely terrible that women earn 44% less than men

A clear indication that you girls should reduce your prices immediately to bring it inline with the national average
