Julie Bindel attack on punting

Did anyone hear the 'debate' between feminist campaigner Julie Bindel and Laura Watson of the English Collective of Prostitutes on Woman's Hour recently? For anyone who doesn't know her, Bindel is a bigoted, poisonous woman who tries to disguise her hatred of men behind a veil of pseudo-feminist rhetoric. As always she expressed her repressive, backwards-looking views that men visiting sex workers should be criminalised, that all sex work involves abuse against women, and more of the same. All of which flies in the face of the more progressive views of the English Collective of Prostitutes, and reputable organisations such as Amnesty International, who want to see sex work decriminalised.
Unfortunately there are people who buy into this woman's twisted views, which make her dangerous.
It is important that we challenge this stuff in every way possible. One way to do so is to give her book The Pimping of Prostitution 1 star reviews on Amazon. So please, if you can, do so. Reviews don't need to be long or detailed. You don't need to read the book (or God forbid buy it) as there is a detailed summary, plus you can look inside for free.
There may be other ways. I don't do Twitter, but no doubt she has some threads there which someone could challenge.
Thank you.

I agree with you although i feel its very un-British to do what you are suggesting. She'll die her own death in time. Paying for sex will never disappear.

Bindel has been banging this drum for years. She ignores evidence that laws making paying for sex illegal are ineffective. For example, such a law was introduced into Northern Ireland in 2005 but the number of WGs advertising their services did not reduce (https://docs.google.com/document/d/17IDHh9G9o7y_hdRFqvs--segHxzg4Z4synQ6jXkmKz4/edit?usp=sharing).

The intent of the NI law was to tackle traffiking (and I hope everyone on here supports this objective) but again there is no evidence that making paying for sex illegal is effective in meeting this aim. There are strong arguments that such restrictive laws make it more difficult to enforce anti-trafficking laws because they tend to drive the sex industry underground.

Dave! You’d think they would have learnt there lessons from persecuted homosexuals and driving that all Underground for many years was a total failure. Either people are free to express themselves sexually among liberated adults or they can face the consequences of a scene pushed Underground which will inevitably harm more women and lead to an increase in unsafe sex.

She has a view, so do others.

Personally I do everything I can to avoid trafficking, hence no Romanians (although I suspect many are legitimate) I also avoid any that look dependant on drugs or alcohol, once getting caught with an alcoholic.

[allinfo.space] 75 buyers arrested in a single night

Look at this article, this in Sweden where this law originated. Do we really want this in the UK? They want to introduce this in Scotland. Do everything that you can to stop it

I would not get too worried about what is happening in Sweden. Every now and again the police do this sort of raid, They cynic in me says they are more concerned about arrest statistics than concern for working girls.

If you want to check the 'sucess' of the Buyers' law in Sweden, just Google 'Stockholm Escorts' - there are hundreds and hundreds of working girls advertising on line. Similar results can be seen anywhere the 'Nordic' law has been introduced, including Northern Ireland where I believe there has only been one prosecution in years.

You're right to be cautious, there are some Eastern European girls that fall victim to this, but most of these are advertised as independent. You can usually spot them when you read the profiles. They're written much better than one of these girls could write them, and they tick all boxes when it comes to services (I sincerely doubt that the girl in the pictures has been consulted about them, or whether she is indeed the girl in the pictures to begin with!). We have to be especially careful with applications and thorough checks. Absolutely detest trafficking!
